A little bit later than usual, thanks to a lengthy power cut, but finally, here’s this week’s travel theme. The sun is currently hiding behind thick layers of dark cloud, and although the days are supposed to be getting longer, it doesn’t feel like it right now. Still, up ahead I have caught a glimpse of the proverbial silver lining… …and I’m hopeful that sunny days will soon be here again. In the meantime, here are some other silvery sights I’ve spotted on my travels. First up, a giant silver needle known as The Spire in the centre of Dublin.
There was a silver street performer in Boston…
…and a silvery sculpture in Seattle…
…silver skyscrapers in Philadelphia…
…a silver tunnel on the way from Yale University to the New Haven train station…
and a burst of silver fireworks over Manhattan celebrating Fleet Week.
Now I’m serving up this week’s theme on a silver platter for your interpretation. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Silver
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS!
Show me the silver!

Great topic, Ailsa! I love silver more than gold, and in my post I talk about how silver is both a semi-precious metal with healing ability–and a color. I always use silver in my fantasy novels, like Selah the slave girl fights off witchcraft with a silver pendant and a sword (but I believe in using spiritual swords, not actual metal ones). I even added my first-ever poll: Do you like silver or gold? Enjoy! http://lonnalisawilliams.wordpress.com/2014/01/20/silver/

A silver shimmer abounds. Hope your power stays on – the days are a tiny bit longer and the sun’s angle has changed: there’s morning sun in windows this week where there was none last week. How the week shines brightly
