A little bit later than usual, thanks to a lengthy power cut, but finally, here’s this week’s travel theme. The sun is currently hiding behind thick layers of dark cloud, and although the days are supposed to be getting longer, it doesn’t feel like it right now. Still, up ahead I have caught a glimpse of the proverbial silver lining… …and I’m hopeful that sunny days will soon be here again. In the meantime, here are some other silvery sights I’ve spotted on my travels. First up, a giant silver needle known as The Spire in the centre of Dublin.
There was a silver street performer in Boston…
…and a silvery sculpture in Seattle…
…silver skyscrapers in Philadelphia…
…a silver tunnel on the way from Yale University to the New Haven train station…
and a burst of silver fireworks over Manhattan celebrating Fleet Week.
Now I’m serving up this week’s theme on a silver platter for your interpretation. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Silver
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS!
Show me the silver!

Silver, gold – I don’t discriminate! I like sparkly things. – Charlaine Harris
Every crowd has a silver lining. – P.T. Barnum
I’ll try… 😉
Oh you silver-tongued devil 😉
Sweeeet!! 😛
This IS going to be a challenge….I’m a bit short of silver at present, Ailsa! And gold, for that matter. 😦
Oh dear, I know EXACTLY how you feel, Sue! 😦
😉
We can’t get enough off silver lining on and in our lives. Love your gallery … a bit from every corner of US! Excellent.
True, viveka, here’s to silver linings! 🙂

Have a silver-lined weekend!
Fabulous, Marion, that armour is amazing, although I bet it’d be a bit uncomfortable to wear on a night out! 🙂
Plus for the partner 😉
Every meteorological event has a metallic edge in your world. . . ;o)
Haha, true indeed. Hope 2014 is treating you well so far! xxx Ailsa
Silver…I think I’ll join in the fun!! Beautiful pics
Excellent! Looking forward to your post. 🙂

Beautiful yellow detail on those clouds and makes for a cool inspiration.
Here’s mine for the week:

Ooh, perfect post for this week’s theme, Ben, did you end up buying anything after all? 🙂
I bought a silk scarf that I liked from a weaving shop. That was immensely interesting to see and a girl who worked there took the time to explain every detail to me.

Gorgeous, Ese, and the black & white works so well with the silver theme! xxx
Hi! I followed here from Ese’s blog. Really cool blog here 🙂

Gorgeous silver here, remains to be seen if I can come up with any:-)
Come with us to Bilbao Spain to the Guggenheim Museum where we hit the mother-load of SILVER. http://traveltalesoflife.com/2014/01/17/travel-theme-silver/
Wow, that’s a whole lot of silver! I’d love to see it in person. 🙂
Thanks for the challenge! At first I thought ….silver??? Then the beautiful Guggenheim came to mind. A trip I would recommend for all. I appreciate your feedback. 🙂

This is a fun challenge and it started with the question, “B&W or color?” As you can see, I went with color: http://wp.me/p24idL-1Q0
Wow, that’s beautiful, Allan, a seriously silver sliver! Can I ask where it was taken? Love the blue background, glad you went with colour! 🙂
I took the photo at a Toyota Dealer in San Rafael, CA. The dealership has a very modern design.
Cool, it looks a lot more exotic than a car dealership! 🙂
Pingback: Travel Theme: Silver | TRAVEL WORDS
Tricky challenge this week – my first thought was silver flowers (or names) but then I remembered this image which I thought was quite magical and silvery and I added a little verse (‘s OK you don’t have to like the verse) 😀

Jude xx
You’re right, Jude, that photo is magical and silvery! Love the verse too! 🙂
Thank you Ailsa! I don’t often break into verse these days, but the image sort of prompted me to 🙂
Wonderful – very well captured… 🙂

Great photos once again Ailsa, I don’t know how you keep coming up with these themes! http://sasieology.wordpress.com/2014/01/17/travel-theme-silver/
That’s a cool tower, they should keep the strawberries! 🙂
They’re only for the summer unfortunately. The whole city gets decorated with strawberries to let people know that the festival is on – it looks pretty cool 🙂

I think I like the silver spire the best of your photos. Here’s mine. I chose the quote before I saw you have the same one on your post. http://emiliopasquale.wordpress.com/2014/01/17/travel-theme-silver/
Ooh, fantastic shot, Emilio! Las Vegas all dressed in silver. Beautiful. xxx
