Once a year, the Irish Veteran and Vintage Car Club rev up their treasured motors and set course for the Powerscourt Estate in County Wicklow for their annual picnic. The public are welcome to come wander through the hundreds of vintage beauties free of charge, so last week that’s exactly what I did.

There was row upon row of stunning motors polished to perfection. Some of the owners went the extra mile and dressed for the part too.

The hard core auto enthusiasts were to be found bumbling around under the hood…

…but my eye was drawn to other details, like fabulous wooden steering wheels…

…bright brassy horns and headlights…

… and decadently delicate wing mirrors.

But oh, it was the amazing array of hood ornaments that really stole my heart.

Hood ornaments make the world a better place, don’t you agree?

About ailsapm
Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall.
And I’m just getting started.
If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.
I really love old cars like these and yes, hood ornaments and details!!!
Definitely, Tvor, it’s all about the details, that’s what makes those cars really special. 🙂
Classy and quaint!! 😉
Just like me. 😉
Stylish as well!! 😀
🙂 Lovely pictures. Looks like you thoroughly enjoyed the vintage cars.
I’m a great fan of vintage cars (see the link) http://happyface313.com/category/cars-autos/
and I enjoy seeing these pictures!
Thanks for sharing!
Have a very HAPPY Friday evening 🙂
Glad you enjoyed them, happyface313, just had a peep at your site, that Gullwing Mercedes Benz is stunning! Happy Friday to you too! xxx
🙂 Thank you! xo 🙂
What a great collection, Ailsa! Fabulous photos you took. How much was that doggie in the window? 😀
That’s my favourite shot, that little doggie looked so regal peeping out her vintage car window. To the manor born. 🙂
Oh glorious oldies! Colourful and shining. Sometimes we have a gathering here in Skåne as well.
It’s a lot of fun to see those gorgeous old cars still getting around and being loved. 🙂
Like us…huh?
Haha, absolutely, Leya! 🙂
I know exactly what you mean! I was rather struck by the chrome and high-gloss polish last year when classic cars came to town. http://wp.me/pL5Ms-1rV
Ooh how fabulous, Jude, that last shot, the reflection in the steam engine chimney, is stunning.
I was lucky with that one! Such a shiny engine 🙂
I love vintage cars (and I think secretly I’d like to own one when I grow up!) – thanks for sharing these ones 🙂
I love your old car photos. I do have a lot of photos of the car mascots. They really did add a lot of class to the cars.
Thank you for this very lovely and spectacular treat through your post. The word vintage alone doesn’t adequately describe the enjoyment you’ve shared.
Great set of Classics and Vintage cars….even what I think is a cute little Riley Elf there, but I could be wrong….
Now I want a vintage car!
These e great photos. 😀
So many beautiful cars. And who knew there were so many options for hood ornaments?
Love it! Great shots with a magnificent backdrop.
shame todays cars are completely featureless
That horn! I wish my crappy Nissan Altima had that horn now. What is that orange car? Great pictures.
