I recently happened upon a vintage car gathering, and the sight of all those shiny, polished, lustrous cars sent me searching through my travel photos for equally glossy, glassy images, and this is what I found. Las Vegas out-gleams any other city I know and really comes into its own at night. Here’s the Bellagio through an abandoned wine glass.
The gleaming, snow-covered slopes of Hurricane Ridge in the Olympics, straight out of a fairy tale.
Raindrops shattering light in the crinkles of leaves at the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island.
Finally, one of my all time favourite statues, the wonderful bronze Alice with her Wonderland friends in Central Park. Sadly I only had a dodgy camera phone with me, but it gives me a seriously great reason to go back for a visit, right? Anyway, Alice looks fabulous year round, but catch her on a cloudy, drizzly, overcast day and she gleams like a beacon.

Hope, like the gleaming taper’s light, adorns and cheers our way; and still, as darker grows the light, emits a brighter ray. – Oliver Goldsmith
We and the cosmos are one. The cosmos is a vast body, of which we are still parts. The sun is a great heart whose tremors run through our smallest veins. The moon is a great gleaming nerve-centre from which we quiver forever. – D.H. Lawrence
They don’t come any more gleaming than the Bellagio, Ailsa! That’s a great shot 🙂 And I love your raindrops too. Happy weekend!
Happy weekend to you too, Jo – I hope it gleams! xxx
Shimmer and shine… I’ll have to find something that gleams, won’t I?? 😉
Maybe that twinkle in your eye, AJ? 😉
Aaah… you’re so sweet!! 😉
Vegas only gleams at night.
But nothing can match the sparkle and shine of fresh mountain snow.
Beautiful
Definitely, phil, Vegas is all glitz and glamour but I’m much more of a snow-drenched Hurricane Ridge kinda gal. 🙂

OMG that shot with the rainbow over your heads, that is insane, how much fun! Love it. 🙂
I like that one too, Ailsa. Just wish there weren’t any droplets on the lens… although given where we were standing, that would be next to impossible!! 😀

A fun word for this week, Ailsa. Lots of gleaming shots on our travels. Here are three recent ones: http://ohtheplaceswesee.com/2015/08/21/travel-theme-gleaming/
What fun photos (to match the fun word!) Love the Sunsphere and the sunlit airplane wing but the birthday boys are my fave. 🙂
They’re pretty special guys, all right. And what fun to celebrate at the beach with old friends!

Nice gleam in your photos Ailsa. I found it had to catch the golden gleam of the Buddhas in mine, here in Chiang Mai. https://almostitalian.wordpress.com/2015/08/22/wat-chedi-luang-chiang-mai/

Oh my giddy aunt, Tish, that looks divine. I have a damson vodka and a damson gin on the go at the moment, should be ready for Christmas, but now I’m dreaming of strawberry vodka. Next year….
Damson gin and vodka are good too, Ailsa. Ah but the strawberry…

Lovely collection, that fountain looks like a field of fluffy dandelion seed heads, how beautiful.
I thought they looked like dandelion puff balls too Ailsa.
