10 thoughts for Earth Day

I spent Earth Day in the best possible way, elbow deep in dirt, working the soil and sowing seeds. As I was preparing a small vegetable patch, I spotted a wild rabbit just a few feet away watching my progress with keen interest and cheeky bravado. I may have to plant a few extra lettuces just in case.

Now the light has gone and I am back indoors nursing a piping hot cuppa,  I thought I would rustle up a few of my favourite earthy quotes coupled with some of my travel shots to round off this Earth Day. I hope you enjoy them.

Earth laughs in flowers.     ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children’s children. About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Lovely quotes and photos Ailsa, if only every one could see the beauty around them and not constantly be striving to destroy nature by either self interest or disinterest.

    • ailsapm says:

I know, pommepal, self interest and disinterest, the bane of our society. I wonder if there will ever come a day when human need takes precedence over human greed.

  2. Lovely photos and quotes for earth day Alisa. I sit here stiff and tired from working in the garden and and I planted a pear tree. Your post is a lovely way to end the day, and now I’m going to hit the hay…. 🙂 peace, on Earth day 2014…. Bruce

    • ailsapm says:

What a perfect thing to do on Earth Day, Bruce – and the great advantage of a pear tree is that you don’t have to contend with foraging bunnies!

  3. Trish says:

Fantastic post. Best quote from Teddy who did so much to preserve or create our National Parks! (Though they were ALL good ones> 😀 )

He was a great, great man, Gunta. When was the last time you heard a politician imploring people to cherish the romance of their country?

  11. Glad you posted today Ailsa! Where are our leaders today? Perhaps things are better elsewhere, but here in Oz it seems our resolve is being eroded by business and the latest batch of sceptical politicians :(.

  12. joannesisco says:

  16. Stunning images for Earth Day. They remind me of the song, “What a Beautiful World.”

  17. Great quotes. I especially liked the Indian Chief’s. I spent Earth Day in my usual way: I take the dog on a walk along a littered road and pick up all the recyclables.
