Tomorrow (August 15th) is National Relaxation Day so I’m getting a head start on things by keeping it mellow for this week’s travel theme. First up, a pair of chilled out anglers taking it easy on a river near Salmon la Sac in Washington.
These snoozing horses in Skagit Valley have definitely got a handle on how to keep things mellow.
New Yorkers take some time out in the height of summer to slow things down with a little yoga on the solstice in Times Square.
If you’re ready to unwind by joining in with your own interpretation of this week’s theme (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Mellow
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS!

Autumn’s the mellow time. – William Allingham
Sweet is the memory of distant friends! Like the mellow rays of the departing sun, it falls tenderly, yet sadly, on the heart. – Washington Irving
The cat on the stairs is gorgeous. I like the color!
I love the way bits of blue are showing through the chipped paint. 🙂

Hurrah, glad you like this week’s theme, Leya. 🙂

Ailsa, Your photo of the two anglers made me laugh – what a contented team.
They were pretty darned adorable, Jill, I couldn’t resist snapping a few shots. 🙂

The dog, hanging over the boat and staring intently at what his human ought to be doing, is priceless, Ailsa. And those horses, the cat, aaaaaah the peace. Lovely challenge, dear.
Here’s my take on mellow – also in the animal theme: https://drieskewrites.wordpress.com/2015/08/15/travel-theme-mellow/

Hi Philippa, I followed the link but it doesn’t seem to be working, can you check and see if your post published? It might still be in draft form. I’d love to see your interpretation. xxx
Hi Ailsa! Nice theme — I’m enjoying the beginning of a nine-month tour of Europe with my family, based out of Germany, and came to your blog by way of Tish Farrell. It’s sleepy here in August, sort of, though the autobahn is jammed-up with European travellers. A nice in-between month of transition, a good theme for the day, ‘mellow.’ Cheers to you and yours — Bill Pearse
Hi Bill, so happy you found my site, how much fun you’re going to have over the next 9 months. Do you have plans on where you’re going to go yet? Germany’s so central to everywhere. Two of my favourite places are 1 ) Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic (you can catch a train from Munich, change at České Budějovice). It’s magical. And 2) Venice – in the shoulder season, when there aren’t too many tourists around and you can linger over mouthwatering meals and savour amazing wines whilst watching the world drift by. Heaven. xxx

Wonderful photos (and great theme). I so love the fishing buddies. Not sure I’d find mass yoga particularly relaxing though 🙂
I’m with you, Su, I felt much more relaxed taking photos from the sidelines! 🙂
