Travel theme: Motion

Last night’s fireworks display was made all the more beautiful by the lake water gently lapping beneath the glow of pyrotechnics. The motion of those waves has given me this week’s theme. First up, a city in motion – a mass yoga session in the heart of Times Square is how New Yorkers welcome the Solstice.

Gazing from the window of the Empire Builder, speeding through America’s heartland, I spotted a shiny silver tanker kicking up a dust storm in front of a Badland outcrop.

Airborne adventurers on the Jersey shore – I couldn’t resist this shot because it looked as if teeny, tiny people were going to have a rude encounter with a giant lamppost. Ahh, the power of perspective.

A fire eater in Guatemala getting ready to snack on something hot. I love the expression of the little boy in the front row.

Last but not least, an elegant gull with stubby little wings getting ready for takeoff in Long Beach, New York.

The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life.” – William Faulkner
