4th of July

I have just finished celebrating Independence Day in Seattle. Instead of facing the insanity of Gasworks Park where Seattle’s main fireworks display takes place; my pal Sylvia, her hubby Brian and I made our way to Magnuson Park along the shores of Lake Washington for a far less crowded view of the Kirkland and Bellevue fireworks displays across the water.

Waiting for the fireworks to begin

Brian rustled up a sumptuous picnic complete with bubbly and we feasted and chatted as the night sky twinkled and the lake waters glowed all colours of the rainbow.

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Thanks Jackie, it was a fantastic display – several displays, actually. From our vantage point we were surrounded by no less than three different fireworks launch sites.

My wife and I have very fond memories of Seattle after vacationing there some years ago. What a lovely place to be for the 4th and what great photos! Thanks for sharing.

We got very lucky finding this alternative spot to view fireworks, Gasworks Park gets pretty crazy. This was a fabulous, mellow alternative. Hope you had a great 4th too. 🙂

thanks for sharing. I have been spoiled by my Jersey shore upbringing and blessed to be able to watch the 4th fireworks over water. (Is there any other way?). This year, unfortunately, I was land bound and didn’t see anything. But I just lived vicariously through your photos. Great captures, nice job. THANK YOU!

Ooh, I remember the 4th of July fireworks over the Hudson River from the rooftop of my apartment in Manhattan, they were always pretty spectacular. Hope you had a good 4th anyway, Deb, despite the lack of fireworks. xxx
