Last night’s fireworks display was made all the more beautiful by the lake water gently lapping beneath the glow of pyrotechnics. The motion of those waves has given me this week’s theme. First up, a city in motion – a mass yoga session in the heart of Times Square is how New Yorkers welcome the Solstice.
Gazing from the window of the Empire Builder, speeding through America’s heartland, I spotted a shiny silver tanker kicking up a dust storm in front of a Badland outcrop.
Airborne adventurers on the Jersey shore – I couldn’t resist this shot because it looked as if teeny, tiny people were going to have a rude encounter with a giant lamppost. Ahh, the power of perspective.
A fire eater in Guatemala getting ready to snack on something hot. I love the expression of the little boy in the front row.
Last but not least, an elegant gull with stubby little wings getting ready for takeoff in Long Beach, New York.
Are you ready to spring into action? If you would like to join in this week’s travel theme (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Motion
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday

Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS – if you’re already following on WordPress.com, remember I’m getting ready to switch website hosts so sign up for email or RSS to keep up to date on posts.

I think I may have something for you tomorrow morning! Your para-glider sparked a memory… 😉
Aha, I wonder what you’ll be posting about! Looking forward to it, AJ. xxx

Wonderful theme, Ailsa, and here’ s my entry: http://esengasvoice.wordpress.com/2013/07/05/travel-theme-motion/
It was pretty spectacular to see the whole of Times Square doing yoga, Ese, and the weather was so hot and humid I don’t know where they got the energy! Love your post, that slide looks like an awful lot of fun.
Great theme, Ailsa! The summer solstice is incredible!
It takes place every year, Amy, and if you ever have the chance, I highly recommend checking it out, it’s really amazing to see so many people moving together in unison – and to see all of Times Square covered in yoga mats!
Thank you so much for hosting the motion theme! Here is mine: http://shareandconnect.wordpress.com/2013/07/08/travel-theme-motion/
Another vote for the parachute – great capture. Shall have to go away and think about my entry now…

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, Jude! xxx
Excellent motion shots.
It must have been amazing to see so many people doing yoga together at the same time.
Amazing photos for the new theme. Thanks, Ailsa. 🙂
