Travel theme: Heat

I’m hiding out indoors because it’s just too darned hot for words. Even my dog laughs at me when I suggest walkies. As I sit inches from a fan trying to cool down, here are some heat-related travel photos I’ve found for this week’s theme, starting with some saucy and scarily spicy heat from the Halal Guys, my pick for Manhattan’s best street food.

Shadowy Guy Fawkes effigies glow in the firelight as they wait for their turn to burn in the bonfires at Golden Gardens on Bonfire Night.

Write while the heat is in you. The writer who postpones the recording of his thoughts uses an iron which has cooled to burn a hole with. He cannot inflame the minds of his audience. – Henry David Thoreau

Nothing splendid was ever created in cold blood. Heat is required to forge anything. Every great accomplishment is the story of a flaming heart.Arnold H. Glasow

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Love it, Ulrike, I’m fascinated by the number of people carrying umbrellas as parasols in your photos. A terribly sensible idea, but it doesn’t seem to be something done in the west. I always wondered why parasols fell out of favour here, I love the look of the lacy frills around the edges.

Haha I love it, and I’ve had similar results trying to capture fire dancers, I got hundreds of fuzzy bright blurs on a dark background, it looked like modern art gone very wrong. 🙂
