The New Year is upon us and all around the world people are resolving to turn over a new leaf. As for me, I’m going to content myself with a few leafy photos instead, starting with this raindrop-bejewelled fern at the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island.
More raindrop-soaked leaves, this time nature starting to reclaim the lava-scorched slopes of Mount St Helens.
Artistic leaves on the Witness Trees in Seattle’s Ballard neighbourhood.
Exotic leaves peeping over a wall in Antigua, Guatemala.
Wandering through the jungle in Tikal, Guatemala.
Different leaves, but they come from trees too! This is an original Audubon Birds of America on display at the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library in Yale.
And now I shall take my leave (see what I did there?) and hand over to you for your interpretation of this week’s theme. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Leaves
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Watch out for the next travel theme which will come out next weekend
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.
Wishing you a very happy 2017.
❤ Ailsa
How beautiful the leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days. – John Burroughs
Let your life lightly dance on the edges of Time like dew on the tip of a leaf. – Rabindranath Tagore
Beautiful photos
Thanks, Happy New Year. xxx
Skilfully done! 🙂 Love the leaf analogy! 5 years or more, Ailsa, and you still keep producing great quality. Doing my best to dance lightly, though I am a bit heavy footed 🙂 Wishing you joy in 2017!

Jo said it. You continue to give us beautiful posts and intriguing themes.
Happy New Year Ailsa.
I love leaves. I needed to fix up my space, and unconsciously, I chose all items with leaves; even my light fixture. But, my carpet, my chairs, my fireplace screen.
Love these shots and I am sure excited to play along this theme. You have got a great blog and I so don’t want to take your leave 😉
Good work there.
