There are so many wonderful things to experience in this world and never enough time to do them all. The week has slipped away from me and I find myself ridiculously short on time, so I’m dedicating this week’s theme to all things short. First up, an unusual take on the shortest of garden ornaments. I spotted these two mural gnomes skulking behind some bluebells in Seattle.
At some point I will run out of photographs of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, but in the meantime, how can I resist sharing this photo?
My eye was caught by some squat little gulls out on Long Beach, New York and I spent a silly amount of time giggling at their antics. They looked so awkward and out of proportion I couldn’t help but fall in love with them.
Last but not least, perhaps my favourite of all, Winnie-the-Pooh‘s best friend Piglet, hanging out with his friends in the Stephen Schwarzman Library in New York, standing ever so tall at a little under four inches in height!
I’m going to stop short and hand over to you for your interpretation of this week’s theme. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Short
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS – I’m in the process of changing over to a new website host but will give you all a heads up when the changeover happens.

“I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.” – John Burroughs
This is a super cute theme! I’ll be right back! 🙂
Hurrah!
I was going to say that I love your photo of the toddlers dwarfed by tulips…but then I came to that much-loved Piglet! Oh, what the heck, I’ll love them both.
Oh Piglet, he’s such a cutie. Those toddlers were hilarious, especially the little boy at the back, he was having such fun.

Piglet is so so endearing and definitely my favourite, Ailsa!
Here’ s me going…short 🙂 : http://esengasvoice.wordpress.com/2013/11/15/travel-theme-short/
Love it, Ese, those industrial ‘hedgehogs’ are fascinating, where did you find them? 🙂
Thank you. They were in the yearly summer market in the Open Air Museum in Riga, caught my attention at once. 🙂
They just make me smile 🙂

Glad I made you laugh. 🙂
Love the tulips and Piglet! Great photos for this challenge!
Thanks Rusha, it was a fun theme to find photos for. 🙂
Not short on oddness

How bizarre, it’s like something from a Stephen King novel. Great capture, Mrs C – and definitely not short on oddness! 🙂
Yes I shall call it Homage to SK 🙂

The gulls there look quite content in their shallow water. Is that actually in the beach’s water or a fountain or puddle of some sort?
And mine for the week, nuns shushing a big Buddha, apparently.
http://pathsunwritten.com/2013/11/15/travel-theme-short/
Oh Ben, this is a mesmerizing photo, I love everything about it, the hands of the Buddha, those amazing walls, gorgeous. What a wonderful moment you captured! xxx Ailsa
Oh, ps, those gulls were on the beach along the coast of Long Island, not far from New York.

These are all just wonderfully…short! A lovely theme – will be fun to try to find something here! Tough to beat your great shots though…the gnomes and the tulips are feasts to the eye.
I fell in love with those gnomes, they were so cute! 🙂
You are not short of wonderful pictures to share. Tulips are cute – but those gulls. Great one
Haha, thanks phil, those gulls had me giggling away at their antics – I felt a bit silly standing on the beach on my own, chortling away, but hey, feeling silly never stopped me yet! 🙂
What wonderful moments you caught! Really stunning pictures!
Thanks, I’m so glad you enjoyed them, those little kiddies just popped out of the tulips right in front of me and I couldn’t believe my luck. 🙂
Piglet looks like he was well loved, how sweet! I’m a big fan of Gnomes too. 🙂
My “short” post is here. 🙂 http://nwframeofmind.com/2013/11/17/travel-theme-short/

Wow, look at all those rainbows, how lovely, Randee! Thanks for brightening up my day. 🙂
You bet! Thanks for visiting and commenting. I could use a rainbow on this drab November day.
I love your short birds. I found it hard to look through my photos for short things, even though I’m sure the word is represented in many ways if I could just open my mind and my eyes. 🙂
Those birds were hilarious, Randee. I love your rainbows too! 🙂
Hi Ailsa and travelling friends,
Those gulls are sóóó adorable. Just like the challenge you came up with this week.
My contribution is a “short” clip I made a year ago which I think realy suits for this theme.
Hope you ‘ll all enjoy it.

Ooh I love it, Dauw, I think this is the first time someone’s responded with a video, beautifully made, my friend. xxx Ailsa
I hope to be back shortly with my post but the sink just started flooding the kitchen! Later. (Love the gulls)

Great interpretation of the theme, poor little dachsunds, I feel so sorry for them, and those frozen daffodils. I adore that shot of your son on his first trip to China, how fun! 🙂
Short and fun – and he was fourteen!
