Travel theme: Plants

It occurred to me recently that many of my travels have involved, at some point or another, close up encounters with plants, from giant redwoods in California to tiny mosses in the Hoh rainforest. Some of the more memorable and photogenic encounters involved edible plant life. In Guatemala I found perfectly paired plantations of coffee

and sugar canes.

Turkey gave me pomegranates…

..Rome gave me oranges…

..Washington state orchards groaned under the weight of ripe, juicy peaches…

…and Irish hedgerows made for bounteous foraging.

Now I realize that photos of berries in a hedge might not take centre stage in everyone’s travel shots, which is why this week’s theme, Plants, is wide open for interpretation. Any plant that reminds you of travel is fair game. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:

  • Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Plants
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

Animals are something invented by plants to move seeds around. An extremely yang solution to a peculiar problem which they faced. – Terence McKenna

An artist cannot speak about his art any more than a plant can discuss horticulture. = Jean Cocteau
