Travel theme: Dark

Far up here in the northern hemisphere the nights are drawing in so quickly that you could almost go for a sunset stroll on your lunch break. There are many things I love about winter, but the lack of light is not one. In the city it doesn’t impinge upon life quite so much, but in the depths of the countryside where streetlights are something you read about in books, once the sun goes down you’re pretty much condemned to being stuffed away indoors, not the happiest state of affairs for someone (mildly) outdoorsy like me. And so here I am, stuffed away indoors at a ridiculously early hour, commiserating with a few deeply dark travel shots I’ve taken around the world. First up, some sparkly ornaments shine through the dark on Seattle’s Candy Cane Lane.

Still in New York, a rather spooky night-after-the-Supermoon emerges from inky shadows.
