It just won’t stop raining and I’m beginning to reach maximum saturation. In an attempt to manipulate the weather gods, I’m channeling all things dry for this week’s travel theme. First up, the dry and dusty Mojave Desert.
My favourite time of year in any Piet Oudolf designed garden is winter, after all the leaves have gone and all that is left are the architectural elements, like this flurry of dried seed heads in New York’s Battery Park.
An ex-pond in Wisconsin at the height of summer when drought was taking its toll.
Coffee beans laid out to dry on a plantation in Guatemala. Mmm, I’m just going to make myself a cuppa… be right back!
I can’t resist leaving you with one more shot from Battery Park during winter, It really is the most beautiful place to wander through on a cold winter’s day.
Now that I’ve given this week’s theme a dry run, it’s over to you for your interpretation. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Dry
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS!
Don’t leave me high and dry, get busy with this week’s challenge!

“I am sure it is a great mistake always to know enough to go in when it rains. One may keep snug and dry by such knowledge, but one misses a world of loveliness.” – Adeline Knapp
“Write till your ink be dry, and with your tears
Moist it again, and frame some feeling line
That may discover such integrity.”
– Shakespeare
