Travel theme: Animal Companions

Saturday was National Dog Day, which I spent hanging out with my pal Scruffy.

But I thought for this week’s travel theme, rather than just focusing on canine companions, I’d open it up to all those wonderful animals who share our lives. Of course, I have my fair share of dog photos, like this flashy guy at Seattle’s Folk Life Festival…

… and this pup celebrating St. Patrick’s Day (umm, somebody should tell him that kilts and tartan are actually Scottish)…

…but there’s also this guy’s macaw who came out to celebrate the all-clear after Hurricane Irene in Manhattan…

…this fabulously chilled out cat in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle…

…and these gorgeous horses roaming the hills around the Nine Stones by Mount Leinster.

Do you have any photogenic pets to put on parade for this week’s theme? If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:

  • Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Animal Companions
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Watch out for the next travel theme which will come out next weekend
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

What a lonely species we are, searching for signals of life from other galaxies, adopting companion animals, visiting parks and zoos to commune with other beasts. In the process, we discover our shared identity. – Diane Ackerman

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Whoof whoof! There you go again… at a gallop, not a canter! I’ll be digging in the archive to find a photo or three!
(Mind you… I don’t have to dig far… my pal Pepsi, features often here. The grand-kids’ dog.)
