I’ve been doing a little bit of decorating this week and am currently paint-splattered and taking a break, so here are a few paint-themed photos from past travels. First up, a glamorous mural adorns the derelict interior of an abandoned casino on the Asbury Park boardwalk in New Jersey.
Some more murals; this one is part of the Mural Mile in Philadelphia…
…and these fabulous murals of Bogie and Bergman create the perfect frame for an outdoor movie screen in Seattle’s Fremont neighbourhood.
Then there was the faded paint-peeling glory of Coney Island …
..and last, but certainly not least, the adorable Donkey from Shrek, carved with a chainsaw and painted to perfection, on the way to California’s Lost Coast.
Have you got your paintbrush (or your camera) at the ready? If you would like to join in and create your own interpretation of this week’s theme (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Paint
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS!

Hi Ailsa,
My sister is a painter, an Alaskan artist, so I think this would be a great post for this week’s theme. Thanks for another great challenge! https://naomibaltuck.wordpress.com/2014/12/17/holiday-house/
Congrats to your sis on her solo show, I love that rainbow coloured painting, but boy, Naomi, those first two photos are stunners, I just love a good old-fashioned snowy winter!

I’m going to have fun with this one… painting by numbers or what?? No… I’ll let the brushes do the talking! 😉
Just make sure you don’t paint yourself into a corner, AJ 😉
Nothing a dram or seven of Black Bush wouldn’t sort out!
You are having WAY too much fun 😀
I adore the mural of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, Ailsa!
Give Donkey a hug from me? And then the faded but beautiful glory Coney Island… happy sigh.

Hugs, enjoy the weekend, dear.
Ooh what a lovely post, Marion, my favourite, like yours, is the last one of Julia’s vase, so pretty, but wow, that one of Hoensbroek Castle is amazing, the painting on the inside of the piano is stunning. What a great place to grow up next to. Happy weekend to you too! xxx
Thanks so much, sweetie 😀 x

A new paint job for the Yellow Submarine of Brooklyn: http://windagainstcurrent.com/2015/10/09/paint/
Oh how much fun, Vlad, I love that they’ve given the trusty old sub a new lease of life, it looks so cheery with its bright yellow coat! I love the GoPro footage too, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one, how are you liking it? xxx
Thanks, Ailsa! 🙂
This is a basic GoPro Hero that Johna was given as a freebie at an event. The various flavors of Hero 3 and 4 are more sophisticated. But even the basic version is pretty good, as long as you don’t expect anything beyond a bare-bones functionality. The quality of the video is not bad. The main problem for me for kayaking is how to mount the camera. There are many options, but most of them involve attaching the camera to a rigid surface, of which there aren’t many in my boat. I also want to be able to reach the camera to start and stop the recording. This video was taken with the camera in a chest harness, which was comfortable but doesn’t offer the best view. I’ll probably have to wear a helmet and attach the camera to that, which is what most people seem to be doing…
Brussels has a unique comic strip route with more than 40 big murals depicting scenes from comic books.

How fabulous, Klara, I love that guy sneaking in the girl’s window. 🙂
Klara I love your mural! I have problems commenting on your site for some reason. I haven’t been able to comment on the bench photos either – it won’t accept my WP account any more the comment box just reverts to anonymous and then when I press publish it goes back to preview.
Thanks Jude, I don’t know what is it about comments on my blog, sometimes, for some unknown reasons, some people just can’t comment. And I allowed everything – in the settings removed any possible hurdle. Still….
Well I used to be able to log in using WP and then it stopped, but now I can comment by using the URL choice. Maybe you should swap over to WordPress? 😀
I have the same problem as Jude, Klara! Loved this image!
