Last week, August 26th, was National Dog Day and I thought it might be fun to extend the canine celebrations a little longer. Here then are some of my favourite dog photos. First, my own sweet, dearly departed Major, who understood the importance of rushing outdoors at the first sign of snow to build a snowman and catch snowflakes on your tongue. A very wise dog indeed.
Sprocket, my friend Mary’s dog who took me on an awfully big adventure all the way from Seattle to Boston.
Loppy, the little stray dog in Guatemala who stole my heart on the shores of Lake Atitlan.
Dirty Biter, a tough little dog so beloved by the town of La Conner that he got his own statue.
Whisper, a blind and deaf cattle dog…
…and her brother Rufus, a feisty little cattle dog whose idea of heaven was to go camping in the blue house (his tent) with his humans, Brian and Sylvia. Sometimes he let me tag along too.
So do you have a shaggy dog story of your own? If you would like to join in with your own interpretation of this week’s theme (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Dogs
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday

The dog in Guatemala is so cute. I actually just published a post of “Animals around the world” from my travels… they’re not just dogs but I thought to share it here. 🙂
Perfect timing, Mani, that goat is adorable. 🙂
What a dream theme! Meet Swingle! https://annarashbrook.wordpress.com/2015/09/04/travel-theme-dogs/
Aww, that face would melt your heart, what a cutie! And Swingle is certainly popular, isn’t she? How many friends does she have? Give her a cuddle from me! 🙂

Great post from the Bulldog!
Haha, I think you might be a little biased. Hey, I just saw your ‘Feet’ post, those leopard print wellies are so cool, I have official rain boot envy! 🙂
Omg. Thanks. I know, right? I love them!
I used to have these super cute leopard print clogs that were kind of fuzzy felt, but my dog Major saw them as competition so he ate them. I came back to find shredded clogs and one very guilty looking dog – he wouldn’t look me in the eye for an entire day, I wanted to be mad at him but he looked so comical I couldn’t do anything but laugh.
That’s awesome and sad all at the same time! My dog proudly brings me my shoes all the time. Thankfully she doesn’t eat them.
Love it, Ailsa! I got Rich to take a bunch of photos of the stray dogs on our last morning in Valparaiso earlier this year. Unfortunately, I never got to write the post, because our camera was stolen while we were having lunch that day. The good news is, we’re going back in February, so I’ll hopefully get another chance!
Oh no, having your camera stolen is bad enough, but losing the photos feels worse somehow. Glad you’re getting a second chance to take those photos though! 🙂
Thankfully, cameras on phones are pretty good these days, so we were still able to get reasonable photos of the rest of the trip.
Life wouldn’t be life without dogs traveling along. Love the pictures

Thank you! Major must have loved snow as much as my dogs do/did! And the Guatemalan guy is so sweet! Here are some of my favourites
Fun! Although, please, the snow will be here soon enough, ease off on the anxiety-inducing snow pictures (I’m kidding, post whatever you want).

Each and every dog in your photos is special, Ailsa. And such an adorable photo of Major, eyes closed in concentration of feeling the snow.
I have chosen a couple photos of Klaartje, the dog of friends of mine. We go for a walk each Monday evening: https://drieskewrites.wordpress.com/2015/09/05/travel-theme-dogs/

I am looking forward to all the Dog posts and stories!
This was one of very first ever blogs so I apologise for waffling on but for dog lovers the images may be of interest. The photos are not mine but rather from google. I hope that is okay. After a couple of weeks in and finding my blogging feet I started using only my own images.
