Has anyone else been following the World Cup? It’s been pretty eventful so far and now the competition is getting hotter. I’ve been looking at other world cups I’ve encountered on my travels. First up, a wonderful mural in Philadelphia, featuring a hand cupping the word ‘family’.
Then there was this great cup of coffee I had in Rome on Valentine’s Day, made even more special by a flirty Italian waiter and a little bit of espresso art.
These funky egg cups found in the Rock Stop in Utah.
Last but not least, looking up at the cupola (hey, it’s cup-shaped and has cup in the name!) from beneath the baldachin in St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City.
Look at all those cups and not a football in sight! How many more cups or cup-shaped things are out there? If you would like to join in this week’s travel theme (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:

Great post! Always fun to get a “perspective shift” in your day!
Glad you enjoyed my little nod to the football 😉
A great and timely theme and great photos Ailsa
Thanks Andrew. Hope you’re enjoying the World Cup. 🙂
Absolutely. So many great goals this year and so many angles to appreciate them.
Oh, clever Ailsa! This’ll have me needing to think 🙂
Yaay, couldn’t resist a little nod to the World Cup, Sue. 🙂
“World Cups” AHAHAHA! Happy travels!
Haha, glad you enjoyed it, Hamilton! 🙂
Great! 🙂
Thanks! 🙂
Wonderful images, Ailsa. The only one I can think of at the moment, is also the Basilica dome. 🙂
It’s such a stunning piece of architecture, isn’t it? 🙂

Great theme, Ailsa! And your photos are beautiful as always – must admit I was the most drawn to the patterns of the egg cups above. 🙂 And…yes….cups are the one thing I try to bring back home from every travel…just a pity I am not at home at the moment to be able to capture the collection..
Here’s my entry this week: http://esengasvoice.wordpress.com/2014/06/27/travel-theme-world-cups/
Wonderful images, Ese, and I LOVE that Ray Bradbury quote. What a great idea, bringing cups back from all of your travels. 🙂
Love your take on “World Cups”!
Thanks Livvy! I couldn’t resist it. 😉
Great photos! Always nice to join in on the fun! Let’s see what I can come up with this time. 🙂
Hurrah, looking forward to your post!
Good day! Here’s a photo of some makeshift stuff made from bamboo (including cups, of course!). I learned how to make these when we had a hunter-gatherer survival training two weeks ago. It was really fun! 😉
ooops, forgot the link: http://angelocrux.wordpress.com/2014/06/30/world-cup/ 😛
Wow, you made those yourself? I’m officially impressed! What else did you learn on that course? It sounds amazing. 🙂
Yes, it was amazing! We learned how to make traps. We also learned how to make fire and how to tell what plant is edible. Our instructor also showed us some trees with flammable sap. And some vines that hold a lot of potable water inside them. It was really, really cool! 🙂
Clever as always Ailsa and a refreshing change from footie!
Variety is the spice of life, Gilly! I’ve been watching way too much football, needed to shake things up a little. 😉
I did one Ailsa! thank you 🙂

Oh how gorgeous, I would totally have that teacup in my garden! 🙂

I love the theme and the photo’s! It’s easy to forget to take photo’s of the small, seemingly everyday things like an arty cup of coffee, but it’s the small things sometimes that bring back little memories to make you smile! I certainly need to take more pictures of the small things!
Every time I look at that photo of the coffee I remember the waiter’s twinkly smile and the mischievous glint in his eye. Makes me smile every time, Gemma. 🙂
What an awesome theme this week. Points for creativity here!
Thanks Andrea! 🙂
