Travel theme: Yellow

I couldn’t believe my eyes this morning when I woke up to clear skies and an unfamiliar yellow sphere shining down on this little patch of the planet. It feels like an eternity since I last saw sunshine so it was with glee that I leapt out of bed and watched a European goldfinch flit about the garden in a blur of red and yellow.

Fresh from a few blissful golden hours of sunshine, here are some more yellow sights I’ve found along the way. First up, the yellow archway of Arco de Santa Catalina in Antigua.

A vibrant yellow escalator in Seattle’s Central Library. Almost as much fun as following the yellow brick road!

Startling yellow lichen in Pleasant Valley, just before a baby elk had a traumatic encounter with the American River.

A cheeky yellow scooter abandoned on a rooftop in Georgetown.

Well, all trace of sunshine has long since departed and overcast skies are now lashing rain, so I’m going for a quick walk under cover of my cheery yellow umbrella.

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Yellow combines perfectly well with the grey of these winterdays, even makes them look cheerfull.
