Fresh from a shoe full of slimy mud deep in the Ape Cave, I can’t stop thinking about the colour brown. It’s not always the most attractive of colours; culturally it’s often associated with poverty and plainness, but it’s also the colour of our earth and brings to mind the organic and natural. Here are a few of the more attractive browns I’ve found on my travels. First up, water dyed brown by surrounding bogs in Wicklow, Ireland.
The brown of a decadent gingerbread castle at last year’s Gingerbread Village in Seattle.
The brown of one of the sweetest dogs I’ve had the honour of travelling with, dear darling Sprocket, star of many of my adventures.
This cool field spotted from the train window of the Empire Builder as I whizzed across the US – it looks more like modern art than modern farming. 🙂
And last, but certainly not least, the very faded, rubbed off and well-loved brown of the original, the one and only Winnie-the-Pooh. Yes, the honest-to-goodness Winnie-the-Pooh, who I met not too long ago in New York.
You’ve got to admit, those are some pretty great browns, right? And I didn’t even include coffee or chocolate! So break out your mahogany, cinnamon, cocoa and hazel; dazzle me with toast, ecru and sepia. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Brown
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS – I’m in the process of changing over to a new website host but will give you all a heads up when the changeover happens.

http://lanterfanteren.blogspot.com/2013/10/fifty-shades-of-brown.html
Hope you ‘ll enjoy.

Love those browns. Interesting that you have Winnie and Winnie on the same page. Did you know that Christopher (Tigger) Creighton’s contact name for Churchill was ‘Pooh’? (See; The Palladin)
Dear Sprocket…must read through your entire travels again.
Paladin, of course
I expect someone else will have chosen the same as me! http://lucidgypsy.wordpress.com/2013/10/21/travel-theme-brown/
I’m back…
I love brown !!! I love this theme 🙂
Awww … the teddy bear tugged at my heart. It’s so cute. I have a brown teddy I should have thought of for the challenge. Maybe. I’ll add him to another post. He is a cutie too. His name is Oliver. Oh my, I’ve forgotten to mention you’re other photos. They’re terrific too.

Great theme this week Ailsa. I love your photo of the field, quite surreal. Here is my go for this week, a few days late.

Speaking of Brown, I see some gold and brown in one of the photos, so The Stranglers’ Golden Brown came into my mind: http://youtu.be/d7R7q1lSZfs
Haven’t heard that song for years! Thanks for the memories!
You’re very welcome! 🙂 Enjoy!
I ended up loving the journey this week’s theme took me on. Thanks Ailsa! Here is my entry:http://wp.me/p2owKx-uC Thanks for your visit!
Cheers!
Great colour choice for this week’s challenge – many of our favourite foods are brown! Please have a look at
Finally got off my butt to participate again. http://www.photoswithfinesse.com/travel-theme-brown-a-scenic-tour-of-the-drumheller-area/ – althouogh brown may not be my favourite colour, it’s prevalent here throughout autumn and winter and into early spring!
Love the gingerbread house! Here are mine for the week: http://ididitforjohnny.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/travel-theme-brown/
Ailsa, thanks for the challenge. I had to search for a while, until I found this delicious brown treat in Lima. http://lorenesudamerica.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/travel-theme-brown/
Hi Ailsa, This is such a cool theme! Your photos are remarkable, as always. Here is mine: http://shareandconnect.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/travel-theme-brown-2/
Here is mine: http://empressnasigoreng.wordpress.com/2013/10/24/i-love-a-sunburnt-country/ Very easy one for Australians!
Great photos Ailsa; I do particularly love the river in Wicklow. Here’s my take on the theme. http://zimmerbitch.wordpress.com/2013/10/24/cook-until-browned/
I have a brown cow for you: http://rainbowbakery.wordpress.com/2013/10/24/hairy-cow/

Love the Churchill quote…though I didn’t participate…it is definitely a worthy subject. I especially love that it is the color of a teddy bear…
Aaaah, I like that lil brown bear!
Here’s my entry tho http://www.someclingynote.net/2013/10/wallpaper.html 🙂
Who says brown is a dull color? It reminds me of sand on a beach, lofty mountains, and so much more. Thank you for liking my blog post so soon after I published it!
I’m quite partial to the colour brown myself, booklovinggrandma, so many wonderful hues. 🙂
