Bright and colourful photos can be show stoppers, but sometimes the palest of photographs can capture the imagination. Right now it is cherry blossom season in Seattle and the city is awash with pale pink blooms.
So I had a look through some of my files for other light, pastel-tinged photographs and here’s what I came up with.
Sea and sky glimmer delicate blue on the shores of Hawaii:
Dawn burns the palest of pinks through the windows of Amtrak’s Empire Builder cross-country train:
Dublin’s Four Courts buildings reflect faintly yellow in the River Liffey:
Fluffy stalks of sugarcane drift before hazy Guatemalan mountains:
Are you feeling faint yet? If you would like to join in this week’s travel theme (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Pale
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.
I’m looking forward to your hushed tones and softest hues!

Ailsa, what absolutely beautiful pink blossom you have captured! I like your other photos too, but the first few (including your header) are just exquisite! I have followed on from your floral theme with:

Oh wow, I’ve never seen a pale pink version of the King Protea before, it’s a showstopper. Amazing pics, Madoqua, and I laughed at your version of bushwalking – it sounds a lot like mine! 🙂

Gorgeous, Nana Tee, that Grand Canyon shot is marvellous, I love how the colour starts off strong and dissipates as it gets closer to the snow storm. I must visit that area during winter, I bet it’s stunning.

Thank you for the beautiful blooms of cherry blossoms! Here’s a washed up contribution… 🙂

Oooh, I love ghost ships, ehkstream, and I really want that little seedling Douglas fir to realize its dreams and make it to sea. I am giggling at the thought. 🙂
Imagine an albatross family decorating it for Christmas as the boat spins lazily around in the middle of the Pacific…
😉

A lovely topic for spring, Ailsa! Read about weddings in Turkey and see my post “Pale like Lace”: http://lonnalisawilliams.wordpress.com/2013/04/06/pale-like-lace/
Oh this is such a fun post, Lonna, I’m getting bunions just looking at those shoes! 🙂
Another fun challenge! Thanks, Ailsa. http://beyondpaisley.net/2013/04/06/travel-theme-pale/
Haha, this is awesome, I love Roman Holiday and those frescoes are amazing. Oh, and I got a good laugh from your inclusion of Pale Rider.:)

Hi Ailsa…this is mine

How lovely, those fluffy grasses are dreamy, and I love that photo of Mount Sindoro almost disappearing in the background. 🙂
Yes, because it is contrasted with sun and that’s the result. I took similar pics and chose only one which I considered representative for pale. 🙂

Lovely shots Ailsa. I especially like the blossoms. Here are mine. http://ayearinmyshoes.wordpress.com/2013/04/06/travel-theme-pale/
Ooh, Livvy, these are all lovely but that shot of the mushrooms is insane, I love it, most definitely print-worthy. That needs to be hanging on a wall somewhere. 🙂
Thank you! I might do that-if I can find some spare wall 😉

Great theme this week! I love the variety of your “pale” photos and it was fun to look at a few of my pictures in a different light. 🙂
http://nwframeofmind.com/2013/04/06/travel-theme-pale/
Oh these are gorgeous, look at that beautiful Oregon Coast! My favourite one, though, is the shot of the San Juans, I love that massive expanse of sky and that small strip of dry yellow grass beneath.
Thanks! The Oregon Coast picture is my husbands favorite and mine is the sky in the San Juans. 🙂

I liked you selection of photos, Eilsa. Here are mine – a few shells.

Oh Pat, these shell shots are glorious, so soft and delicate and the light is perfect. That second photo is stunning with all those iridescent colours, I love it. xxx
Thanks, Ailsa. I am having a great time experimenting and I’m usually not comfortable with softening the lines. But I also like pushing myself a little out of my comfort zone. This was a good challenge for me. Thanks so much for coming up with it.

Hi Ailsa, pale is a great topic and I love each of your photos for this one! From my desert neighborhood… http://patriciaddrury.com/2013/04/06/travel-theme-pale/
I love your desert neighbourhood, Patricia, your photos are truly lovely – that raindrop-covered one just made me do a happy dance, it’s glorious.
Thanks so much, your posts of Seattle remind me of my childhood growing up there and I do my own happy dance 🙂
Hi Ailsa, those cherry blossoms are beautiful, especially that second one with the dark purple petals in the foreground. Gorgeous. I also love the ornamental grasses. Here’s mine for your challenge: http://catbirdinoman.wordpress.com/2013/04/06/travel-theme-pale/
Very pretty gallery …. love the cherry blossom – my pick must …. be last one. Love the green, beige and blue .. in that photos .. and it’s fresh and delicate.
Great topic. Thanks for holding these challenges. I sure enjoy them!
