Travel theme: Dogs

Last week, August 26th, was National Dog Day and I thought it might be fun to extend the canine celebrations a little longer. Here then are some of my favourite dog photos. First, my own sweet, dearly departed Major, who understood the importance of rushing outdoors at the first sign of snow to build a snowman and catch snowflakes on your tongue. A very wise dog indeed.

Sprocket, my friend Mary’s dog who took me on an awfully big adventure all the way from Seattle to Boston.

Loppy, the little stray dog in Guatemala who stole my heart on the shores of Lake Atitlan.

Dirty Biter, a tough little dog so beloved by the town of La Conner that he got his own statue.

Whisper, a blind and deaf cattle dog…

…and her brother Rufus, a feisty little cattle dog whose idea of heaven was to go camping in the blue house (his tent) with his humans, Brian and Sylvia. Sometimes he let me tag along too.

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

  3. The dog in Guatemala is so cute. I actually just published a post of “Animals around the world” from my travels… they’re not just dogs but I thought to share it here. 🙂

Aww, that face would melt your heart, what a cutie! And Swingle is certainly popular, isn’t she? How many friends does she have? Give her a cuddle from me! 🙂

  5. Great post from the Bulldog!

Haha, I think you might be a little biased. Hey, I just saw your ‘Feet’ post, those leopard print wellies are so cool, I have official rain boot envy! 🙂

      • Omg. Thanks. I know, right? I love them!

        • ailsapm says:

I used to have these super cute leopard print clogs that were kind of fuzzy felt, but my dog Major saw them as competition so he ate them. I came back to find shredded clogs and one very guilty looking dog – he wouldn’t look me in the eye for an entire day, I wanted to be mad at him but he looked so comical I couldn’t do anything but laugh.

Love it, Ailsa! I got Rich to take a bunch of photos of the stray dogs on our last morning in Valparaiso earlier this year. Unfortunately, I never got to write the post, because our camera was stolen while we were having lunch that day. The good news is, we’re going back in February, so I’ll hopefully get another chance!

    • ailsapm says:

Oh no, having your camera stolen is bad enough, but losing the photos feels worse somehow. Glad you’re getting a second chance to take those photos though! 🙂

Fun! Although, please, the snow will be here soon enough, ease off on the anxiety-inducing snow pictures (I’m kidding, post whatever you want).

This was one of very first ever blogs so I apologise for waffling on but for dog lovers the images may be of interest. The photos are not mine but rather from google. I hope that is okay. After a couple of weeks in and finding my blogging feet I started using only my own images.
