I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date. I’ve been channeling my inner White Rabbit whilst waiting patiently for a dodgy internet connection. Still, better late than never, here is this week’s theme which is all about sound, starting off with a rather ingenious hidden sound installation at the heart of New York’s Times Square.
Next time you’re passing through Times Square, make a point of walking over that grating in the sidewalk to experience the secret installation. Hopping right over the other coast of the US, here’s an incredible outdoor art installation in Seattle Center called Sonic Bloom, a whole bunch of illuminated, singing flowers that you can conduct. Check out the Sonic Bloom link above to listen to it. Interactive art doesn’t get any better than this.
Still in Seattle, here’s a boat sailing on Puget Sound. 🙂
One of my favourite sounds comes from this little fellow, the cheeky, ever so tame European robin. This little guy is quite happy to perch on my hand to eat treats, and is ever so chirpy in his appreciation.
Next week I should have a ‘sound’ internet connection, but in the meantime, I’m hoping you’re inspired to make some noise with your own interpretation of this week’s theme. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Sound
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing. – William Shakespeare
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. – Douglas Adams
