Theodore Seuss Geisel, better known as children’s book author Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2nd 1904 and to celebrate his birthday, I had a bit of fun matching up a few of my photos with some quotes from the “winning-est writer of all”. Although the grouchy, cave-dwelling Grinch is my favourite character, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” wins my heart for both story and spirit and these are some of my favourite verses:
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
It’s opener, out there,
in the wide, open air.
You will come to a place
Where the streets are not marked.
Some windows are lighted.
But mostly they’re darked.
Onward up many
a frightening creek,
though your arms may get sore
and your sneakers may leak.
On and on you will hike
and I know you’ll hike far
and face up to your problems,
whatever they are.
You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!
Kid, you’ll move mountains.
