Travel theme: Graceful

If you’ve read any of my travel tales, you’ve probably got a fairly good idea of my level of gracefulness. If you haven’t, let me just say I have descended the snowy slopes of Mount Rainier with the agility of a gazelle on crutches, flounced alongside sequinned and tuxedo-clad clientele whilst sporting a rumpled shirt with a hole in the elbow in Vegas and almost knocked myself unconscious with a tent in Moab. My score of absolute zero on the scale of gracefulness might explain why I am so attracted to displays of it in others, so here is a selection of graceful photos I’ve taken on my travels. First up, the most elegant of swans, gracefully preening on the waters of the village pond in East Hampton.

Walking along the Seattle waterfront, I followed the strains of Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love” and discovered these two fabulous dancers weaving a tango in a secret spot along the shoreline.

Still in Seattle, this patch of glowing, singing flowers, aka the art installation Sonic Bloom, is strangely graceful.

High up on Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic Mountains, this deer tried to steal my sandwich, and even though she proved to be the most heinous of thieves, she still maintained an air of dignified grace.
