Travel theme: Gleaming

I recently happened upon a vintage car gathering, and the sight of all those shiny, polished, lustrous cars sent me searching through my travel photos for equally glossy, glassy images, and this is what I found. Las Vegas out-gleams any other city I know and really comes into its own at night. Here’s the Bellagio through an abandoned wine glass.

Finally, one of my all time favourite statues, the wonderful bronze Alice with her Wonderland friends in Central Park. Sadly I only had a dodgy camera phone with me, but it gives me a seriously great reason to go back for a visit, right? Anyway, Alice looks fabulous year round, but catch her on a cloudy, drizzly, overcast day and she gleams like a beacon.

Hope, like the gleaming taper’s light, adorns and cheers our way; and still, as darker grows the light, emits a brighter ray. – Oliver Goldsmith

We and the cosmos are one. The cosmos is a vast body, of which we are still parts. The sun is a great heart whose tremors run through our smallest veins. The moon is a great gleaming nerve-centre from which we quiver forever. – D.H. Lawrence
