Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall.
And I’m just getting started.
If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue. Remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.
So true. So true! (but keep writing while you wander, OK?)
You’ve got yourself a deal, philosophermouseofthehedge! Love your blog, the hawk story makes me sad and angry all at once 😦
Love this bit : “Anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.”
🙂 Me too, it’s true!
Great blog! You are a such a great story teller, which I think is great because I travel with you in each post you write. I need to work on my writing skills – which I have none. I’m inspired by your photography. Your photos are so beautiful. I read your posts a couple of times before moving to the next and each time I see something new.
Thanks for your kind words, Wendy, and for the follow. Welcome aboard the adventure.
Hi, Ailsa,
We’ve nominated Where’s my backpack? for the Versatile Blogger Award (see http://windagainstcurrent.com/2012/03/21/versatile-blogger-award-take-two/). I know that we nominated The Eco and the Id previously, but you’ve started another wonderful blog, and “to him (her 😉 that hath shall be given…”
No obligation to follow the silly rules—do with it what you will…
Hurrah, thanks so much, Vlad, now my travel blog won’t have to be jealous of my nature blog 😉 Popping over to check out your post now. x
Wow. You are an inspiration. I want to be a traveler like you so badly, but I am only 22 and I still can’t get over those budget issues. I love to see what is out there, perhaps make a difference and reach out to people from all walks of life.
Aw, thanks for saying that, Lim Jun Jie, that’s really cool. You know, you have got plenty of time to see the world, when the time is right, it will happen for you. And remember, travel doesn’t have to be expensive. There are plenty of opportunities to work your way around the world. Many of my travels have been supported by finding work in the local country. It’s so much better than just visiting as a tourist; it really gives you an insight into the culture of everyday life and you make some wonderful friends too. And the other real money saver is travelling slowly – if you have the time, taking a boat or a train or even a bike is way more fun than paying top dollar to get stuffed into an airplane and hurtled through the air. I wish you luck in your adventures, and I’d hope you enjoy following mine. xoxo Ailsa
Thanks! May I just ask a question? I am aware of working holidays and that is my intention. Do you find work overseas all by yourself and through connections or other means?
Anyway, thanks for all that suggestions. It means a lot.
As you’re just starting out, it might be easier to get a job before you go, it’s always nice to know you have somewhere to go. There’s lots of seasonal work available at ski resorts, hotels and the like, which is a handy introduction into the world of travel, with the security of a paycheck and somewhere to stay. When I was in college, I used to spend the summer vacations in other countries, doing hotel work or teaching English as a foreign language. Once you’ve chosen where you’d like to go, start researching local businesses that might have seasonal work, and then contact them. The internet is a great resource. xxx
Hey, thanks for that tip. I appreciate that. I hope you get plenty more travels and wonder experiences.
I hope so too. Follow my blog and find out 😉 and let me know how you get on with your travels too!
Looking forward to going through your blog…it looks great!
Likewise Angeline, looking foward to following your adventures!
Gulls can be nasty beasts :D. Your life path is impressive 🙂
Yes, they can, that gull had his moves down! 🙂
Shortening it to Sir Jeff is it?
Madam, your disregard for proper decorum and civility knows no bounds. 😉 I have decided to subscribe to your blog young maiden, in order to keep an eye on you! And when you utter your “Sir Jeff The Rude,” it is I ,SJTR, who shall be there to pounce! 😀
Good day to you!
Cor blimey, guv’nor, that’s me told. I doff my hat to you, sir, and follow you back. 😉
You my Lady, make me laugh! 😀
I wish I could see the look on their face when some other blogger, without knowing I’m the one who came up with the title, reads you calling me Sir Jeff The Rude when leaving a comment or replying to one. Tee Hee 😉
Nice! I look forward to reading more adventures! 😀
Yaay! I hope to have many of them 🙂
Great adventures, I am so jealous. I can’t wait to hear more of your stories!
Thanks, Andrea, I can’t wait to have more stories to tell! 😉

When I finally get my act together to do a post on the lovely awards I’ve been nominated for, I am totally stealing your Atlas of Me. 🙂
That’ll make interesting reading Ailsa. Look forward to it.
Apropos of which, maybe we should start up a travellers award, just one nominee at each round, with the Atlas Game as its centrepiece? Maybe you could pop in a poll when you do your acceptance speech and see what people think?
Great idea, a travelling travel award 🙂
Ha ha ha:
A little something for you can be found here:

Pingback: Capture the Colour… | The Retiring Sort
Hi, Ailsa – You may or may not already have done this – it’s a photo challenge through TravelSupermarket.com due 8/29. I thought of you, although I know that’s not much time. My entry’s posted on my blog.
They want to see 5 photos, one each representing Blue, Green, White,Yellow, and Red. If you’re interested, the data is here:
http://www.travelsupermarket.com/c/holidays/capture-the-colour/
Hi TRS, just caught this comment now – yhup, been on the road so much I totally missed out on this contest, sounds like it was a lot of fun though!
Hi, Ailsa,
We’ve nominated you for the “Capture the Colour” contest. See details at http://windagainstcurrent.com/2012/08/27/capture-the-colour/. We’d love to see your photos in response to this challenge! (However, there’s a deadline soon, and we know you are traveling…)
Darn it, I would love to have entered, but being on the road got in the way. Fab shots, Vlad, the white one is stunning and I love how the green and yellow pop out from the other colours too.
Ailsa, you are so my favorite for so many reasons, not the least of which is how much you have inspired me to further my passion for photography. So thank you for that. I love your blog and have nominated you for several awards! Please don’t feel obligated to participate – just know that you are appreciated. Here’s the post: http://newsofthetimes.org/2012/08/28/tuesday-tunes-ramble-on-and-awards-galore/ Keep up the great work!
Hi Jen, thanks so much for the blog love, and happy belated birthday, looks like I missed it being on the road. Hope you had a wonderful trip! xxx
I love your blog! I’m a world traveler also! Where are you currently traveling to?
Nice to meet a fellow traveller, Infinite Journey – I’m on the west coast of the US right now, where are you? xxx
I am in Tennessee right now and Tasha is in Florida. We leave in a couple of months for central America. What made you start traveling? We are doing a year long documentary project that includes the stories of other travelers! I hope we cross paths, I would love to capture your story to share with others 🙂
Very cool, Infinite Journey, gosh, I can’t quite remember a time when I wasn’t travelling, at least for some part of the year at any rate. It’s part and parcel of being Irish, I suspect. 😉
Awesome blog! I see myself coming back for more interesting posts. I love to wander around just like what you are doing. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks for your kind words, GraCess Mommy, and welcome aboard the adventure. xxx
