Travel theme: Adventure

2018 has been keeping me away from my keyboard; it is the end of January and this is my first chance to wish you all a Happy New Year. I hope it is turning out to be an amazing year for you.  To my dismay, I find myself with too little time on my hands to keep up with the weekly travel themes. Over the last five and a half years (can you believe it has been that long) I have loved every moment of our shared experiences and hope we can continue to check in on each other’s journeys around this great little planet. I promise to pop in with updates as time permits but for now, let me take inspiration from the adventures we have had for one last travel theme. Here are some of my travel photos that speak to me of the world of adventure out there waiting for us to discover, starting off with a precarious suspension bridge over Lava Canyon at Mount St. Helens.

Look at all those adventures just waiting to be experienced. If you would like to join in one last time (everyone’s welcome!) to create your own version of this daring and dashing travel theme, here’s what to do:

  • Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Adventure
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too.
  • Make 2018 your best year yet.
  • Keep having adventures and writing about them. I will too, I promise.

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

I wondered where you had parked your backpack Ailsa, I missed you. Wow 5+ years, I’ve enjoyed your challenges and will miss them. I’m more sedentary these days but will look forward to putting a post together of some of my past adventures. Best wishes for 2018, I’ll watch for your up dates when you have the time to post them

    • ailsapm says:

Pauline, I bet you’ll be sneaking off on adventures when nobody is looking, nobody really retires from gypsy life 😉 but I just followed your new blog to see what you get up to. I know, can you believe the travel theme has been going for over 5 years? I’m going to miss it loads, but new adventures beckon and who am I to say no to adventure? I will be posting sporadically and popping in to catch up on other blogs to see what everyone is up to. Here’s to an amazing 2018 ❤

I will miss your weekly challenge Ailsa it has been a pleasure to join you. I think I have been with you for almost the whole 5 years. I must check back through my archives. Where are you going? If you get to Australia I have a bed you can use and it would be so good to meet you. Safe and happy travels to you my blogging buddy.

Wow, Ailsa, such beautiful photos. I love that narrow road with the trees ahead.

  5. Jenny says:

Ailsa, I have so much enjoyed your travel challenges over the years, even though I haven’t posted for quite a while. Thanks so much for them all and to everyone else who has posted their beautiful images. I’m sure that many of the blogs I follow now I found on responses to your challenges.
I’ve been thinking of creating my own monthly travel challenge based on my postcard style posts. I wonder if anyone would be interested. And whether I could maintain it.

    • ailsapm says:

Well, Jenny, it’s been an incredible journey doing this travel theme, I’ve come to know so many amazing people from all around the world and experience their part of the planet through their eyes. I love your idea of the postcard style posts, and monthly would be a lot easier to maintain than weekly. I’m going to miss the weekly practice of writing my travel theme and then reading the responses throughout the week, but I promise to keep posting about my adventures, and following you on yours. xxx

I have wondered where your backpack was hiding…sorry to hear you are pressed for time. I shall look forward to seeing you around when you manage to post, and meanwhile I’m off to find some past adventures for a post…

    • ailsapm says:

A busy life is an interesting one, Sue, that’s what I figure 🙂 although I must admit I am going to miss writing the travel themes and reading everyone’s responses so very much, I put off retiring the travel theme for as long as I could, but I promise to remain an active part of this amazing community, I’ll be checking in on your posts and writing a few sporadic ones of my own too. I’ll watch out for your adventure post. xxx

How about a monthly? Last Monday of the month?? Come on… do it for us!!

I think I began doing your challenges not long after you started them and we may live less than 100 kms apart but we yet have to meet face-to-face! Well, maybe a pretty young lady like you could do without meeting a grumpy old man like me!!

Thanks for the many hours of pleasure your shared with us and encouraged us to share with others! You deserve many hugs and kisses for bring together so many virtual friends!
Thanks for your encouragement when I was down… when you always had a happy comment or advice to drive the blues away!

You will be sorely missed… sorely!
I’ve actually got a lump in my throat… like when you say goodbye to a friend while wondering when you’ll ever see them again!

    • ailsapm says:

Aww, shucks, Vossie, you’re so sweet. I promise I’ll still be active, writing the occasional update as time permits, and checking in to see what mischief you’ve been up to. And we should still plan on making 2018 the year we meet in real life. Deal? 🙂 Here’s to the new adventures that are just around the corner. xxx

  11. So sorry that you have to discontinue this travel challenge – it’s been a lot of fun. I hope you’ll continue blogging to share your very own adventures with us. Best wishes, Ailsa!

I’ve finally managed to get my thoughts together Ailsa. I’ve had quite a number of adventures to choose from but I think the BIG one around Australia still stands tall in my memories. Best wishes to you for where ever you take your back pack I will watch this space and hope you can find time to share your new adventures with us soon. https://retiredfromgypsylife.wordpress.com/2018/02/06/travel-theme-adventure/

Oh, that’s a shame. Your challenge was one of the first I entered when I started blogging and through you I met lots of similar minded folk. I haven’t joined in for a while, but have happy memories of posts. But I do know that hosting a challenge is hard work so well done for managing this for all that time. Good luck in the future and I wish you many happy adventures.
    Jude xx

    • ailsapm says:

Thanks Jude, I’ll be popping in every so often, time is just a little scarce at the mo so I made the difficult decision to retire the travel theme even though I loved every single second of it and got to know so many amazing fellow bloggers. I promise to check in on you every so often. xxc

  26. Ailsa I have absolutely loved being a part of this project and eagerly awaited the new theme every week. Thanks for inspiring me with motivation and ideas.
Best of luck with your 2018 plans.

    • ailsapm says:

So glad you’ve enjoyed the travel theme, it was such a tough decision to retire it, but life’s been getting busy. But I’ll still be around every so often as time permits. Happy travels (and I just followed your site) xxx
