Travel theme: Sport

The Rio Olympics are officially underway so what better way to celebrate than to explore the world of sport for this week’s travel theme, starting with a muddy game of tug-of-war, from the not-quite-Rio Sheep Olympics I attended in the wee Irish town of Gorey a while back.

A long jumper on Seattle’s Alki Beach.

I think Olympic swim events would be greatly improved by the inclusion of the doggy paddle.

And for the closing shot, how about sailing off into the sunset like this…

If you’re feeling athletic enough for a challenge, how about creating your own version of this theme? If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome to join in!) here’s what to do:

  • Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Sport
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday (unless, of course, I get locked out again!)
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Oh this is so good! I love your photos of sports representing Olympic events. I love the idea of dogs being in the swimming events! I’m going to see if I can find some photos too.

Spot on old sport! Does throwing a few steaks on the barbie count as sport? 😉

Awesome photos and theme. I think even me, the most non-sporty girl on earth, could take part in your version of the Olympics. Love it. 🙂

I racked my brain for a sport as unusual (to most of us) as your tug of war, Ailsa. Then I remembered watching surfers catching waves on Oahu’s North Shore…
