Alas, the holiday season is behind us and now it’s back to work/school/life as usual, so to put a spin on the post-holiday blues, let’s explore the routine. First up, laundry day on Lake Atitlan.
Next up, slaving over a hot stove… Viking style, at the Brian Boru Festival in Killaloe.
Shaking things up a little, how about a dance routine, maybe a secret tango in Seattle.
Last but not least, the routine of earning a living, be it selling roses in Rome…
…rustling up the best street food I’ve ever tasted in New York…
…or carrying a serious load of firewood in Guatemala.
So don’t let the daily grind get you down, turn it into a blog post for this week’s theme instead. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Routine
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

One travels to run away from routine, that dreadful routine that kills all imagination and all our capacity for enthusiasm. – Ella Maillart
That firewood shot always gives me a twinge in my back.
Any time I’m feeling like a task is too big for me, I take a look at that photo, Mick, and it puts things into perspective. 🙂
Love your shots, especially the two women chatting, that guy looks like he’s wearing furry wings! 🙂

Ah yes, the old routine… not always fun after the holiday season, but great as a theme, Ailsa.
All my best wishes for 2016! *hugs and a big kiss*

How is that guy not collapsing under that load of firewood!?! Those rose guys bother me because they’re often aggressive and try to guilt you into overspending on a rose that only lives a day. Not to disparage the guy’s vocation, but please, get a better routine, rose guy.
Fascinating photos for your theme, Ailsa. The firewood guy must heave such a sigh of relief once it’s all sold and he can go home. 🙂

Routine, or even lack of it, can determine our days. After 4 weeks working on a farm with strict routines I am now enjoying having no routines for a while. So I am enjoying having time to get back into my blogging routine. But this is about my time on the farm. Good to be back with you Ailsa.

some routines are much easier than the others. as you say, Ailsa, some of them help putting thing into perspective.
