Travel theme: Self

Out and about recently, I was struck by the number of people wandering around with their camera phones stuck on the end of so-called ‘selfie sticks’.

In the age of the selfie, I must admit I am far, far happier behind the camera than as its subject, so my ‘selfie’ photographs tend to be a little, umm, obscure, like this silhouette of my favourite summer skirt after a day at the beach…

…or my green boots being broken in…

…or getting cosy in fluffy Christmas socks.

But the self portrait I think represents me best is one I took sitting right at the top of a Mayan pyramid with my feet sticking out over the edge. My jungle boots, covered in jungle mud, peeping out over the jungle.

So you see, you don’t always have to get right in front of the camera to capture the essence of who you are. Can I tempt you to create your own interpretation of this week’s theme? If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:

  • Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Self
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

  4. Love the socks! As someone who likes to keep their feet warm in fluffy socks I can appreciate the socks 🙂 Hate selfie sticks, they were everywhere in Europe and we could not walk along the street or enjoy a moment without someone trying to sell us one.

Hi Ailsa , I did a post on “selfies” in 2014. Thought it was quite relevant to your theme. regards Peet. https://pdjpix.wordpress.com/2014/02/11/travel-selfies-been-doing-them-for-years/
