Travel theme: Inspiration

I was sitting here waiting for inspiration when it struck me that it might be interesting to examine what we find inspiring. For me, nature has always provided the most immediate inspiration…

Empire Builder, Amtrak, train journey, travel, Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney

…but I am also inspired by the written word, like these rare books and manuscripts at the Beinecke

beinecke, rare books, rare manuscripts, yale, new haven, connecticut, travel, photography, travelogue, ailsa prideaux-mooney

…and art, like this sculpture entitled ‘Burst of Joy’ in Philadelphia

……and this stunning glass sculpture from the Scapes collection by Venetian siblings Laura de Santillana and Alessandro Diaz de Santillana.

So what inspires you? If the muses are smiling, perhaps you would like to create your own interpretation of this week’s theme. If you want to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:

  • Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Inspiration
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.  – Jack London

Of course, there will always be those who look only at technique, who ask ‘how’, while others of a more curious nature will ask ‘why’. Personally, I have always preferred inspiration to information. – Man Ray

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

This challenge was perfect for my new “photo a day blog” and I instantly knew which photo I wanted to use. As I have my posts scheduled a week or so ahead I just had to slot a sneaky extra in. I thought it justifably appropriate!

Great theme this week. It was fun looking through my photos with the intention of finding what inspires me to take them. I definitely could find more than one thing, but focused on the sky: http://stephgost.com/2015/11/28/travel-theme-inspiration/ . I really liked your picture of the books and manuscripts, it reminded me of the Central Library in Vancouver. I loved going there and spending a few hours walking around and deciding what to read next.
