Theodore Seuss Geisel, better known as children’s book author Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2nd 1904 and to celebrate his birthday, I had a bit of fun matching up a few of my photos with some quotes from the “winning-est writer of all”. Although the grouchy, cave-dwelling Grinch is my favourite character, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” wins my heart for both story and spirit and these are some of my favourite verses:
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
It’s opener, out there,
in the wide, open air.
You will come to a place
Where the streets are not marked.
Some windows are lighted.
But mostly they’re darked.
Onward up many
a frightening creek,
though your arms may get sore
and your sneakers may leak.
On and on you will hike
and I know you’ll hike far
and face up to your problems,
whatever they are.
You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!
Kid, you’ll move mountains.

Beautiful pics and I love Dr Seuss.
Thanks Stephen, glad you enjoyed my little tribute xxx
The places you will go! One of my favorite books! Great post!
Thanks Melissa and Megan, that book always fills me with a sense of excitement and possibility! xxx

Mrs. backpacker’s perfect main slogan …
all backpackers’ slogan …
Haha, so true, frizztext 🙂
I like the pictures very much! However, the verses speak to me even more! I have quoted the first verses at the end of my email – something for others to think about too!
Yes, Ilona, those verses speak to me too, they always have and always will; they stand the test of time! xxx
This is a wonderful entry dedicated to Dr. Seuss. I just recently re-read “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” kinda in honour of my cousin’s passing (because he, like me, had followed his dreams and travelled a fair bit). My favourite Dr. Seuss book is “The Sleep Book”. Not as well-known, but it still puts me to sleep, 30 odd years later!
What a beautiful way to remember your cousin, Scott, so sorry for your loss. I haven’t read The Sleep Book but I’m going to take your recommendation and find it; I often have a hard time falling asleep. xxx
Loved the idea of matching the photos to all those quotes! Thanks for visiting my blog, that’s how I came to visit here….
Hi Sue, I’m very glad you popped over for a visit, and happy you enjoyed this post. xxx Ailsa
You matched the words with the images perfectly…
Thanks Linda, glad you enjoyed it 🙂

Haha, thanks Shards, the noogie was my favourite sign. Yeah, good old Dr. Seuss, you can’t go far wrong with him. xxx
