Travel theme: Hills

The hills of Donegal are my inspiration for this week’s travel theme. Ireland‘s peaks may be short on stature, but they stand just as proud as their mountainous rivals in other countries. Take a look at this picturesque hairpin bend through Glengesh Pass near Ardara in Donegal.

And these misty hills surrounding Glenveagh National Park.

The mighty Errigal, the tallest peak in the Derryveaghs, shrouded in cloud but still majestic.

…and more of the Derryveagh range looming over winding roads.

Sun bursting through cloud cover in the Poisoned Glen, shining a heavenly spotlight on the surrounding hills.

Saving my favourite for last, this sheep contemplating life, the universe and wool, gazing out to sea from a hillside spot by the Cliffs of Sliabh Liag.

The artist produces for the liberation of his soul. It is his nature to create as it is the nature of water to run down the hill. – W. Somerset Maugham

How did it happen that their lips came together? How does it happen that birds sing, that snow melts, that the rose unfolds, that the dawn whitens behind the stark shapes of trees on the quivering summit of the hill? A kiss, and all was said. – Victor Hugo
