I’ve been doing a lot of walking recently, and it always amazes me how my perception of a place changes when I take the time to explore on foot, rather than using a car or public transport. This week’s theme is an homage to my favourite mode of transport and some of the best exercise out there…whether you’re walking the dog in Tramore….
…tightrope-walking in Seattle…
…walking the green stripe on the evening before Paddy’s Day…
… walking over Arches red rocks in the rain…
…walking with a heavy load in Guatemala…
…and walking with roses in Rome.
So can I tempt you to skip the gym and take a walk on the wild side with me instead? If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Walking
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Watch out for the next travel theme which will come out next weekend
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

Writing is like walking in a deserted street. Out of the dust in the street you make a mud pie. – John le Carre
Walking is man’s best medicine. – Hippocrates
Walking is the natural recreation for a man who desires not absolutely to suppress his intellect but to turn it out to play for a season. All great men of letters have therefore been enthusiastic walkers. – Leslie Stephen
