My little dog Scruffy kept me awake last night, frightening away imaginary monsters lurking in the gale that was blustering outside the window, so in today’s sleep-deprived state I am taking my inspiration from my beloved, tiny canine companion with the bark of a dog ten times her size. How about some peppermint bark? It wouldn’t be Christmas without it.
Some delicate peeling tree bark at the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island…
…and some vibrant redwood bark in California.
Last but by no means least, the inspiration for this week’s theme, in one of her quieter moments.
She’s currently asleep on the chair beside me, I’m tempted to wake her up with a loud bark and see how she likes it, call it a lesson in woof justice. 🙂 In the meantime, are you ready to run with the big dogs and take a bite out of this week’s theme? If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Bark

A living tree is a changing, sleeve shape, a wet, thin, bright green creature that survives in the thin layer between heartwood and bark. It stands waiting for light, which it catches in the close-woven sieves of its leaves. – Alice Oswald

Dogs feel very strongly that they should always go with you in the car, in case the need should arise for them to bark violently at nothing right in your ear. – Dave Barry
