Once upon a time, air travel was exciting; it was an adventure, entertainment in and of itself. That was before legroom and seat size dwindled to the verge of ridiculous, before meals became a bag of pretzels became pack your own lunch and long, long before you were scanned, fingerprinted, felt up and patted down to within an inch of your existence. Taking to the air these days is all too often a serious, sterile business, so any attempt to rekindle the lost joy of flight is alright by me.
It’s no secret I’m a big fan of anything that makes sitting through an in flight safety video more entertaining. Air New Zealand’s whimsical videos have kept me grinning for quite some time, but now Virgin America has stepped up and thrown down the gauntlet with their new ‘Safety Dance’ video. With inspired song and lyrics by Todrick Hall of American Idol fame, it’s an epic mix of song and dance that runs the gamut from jazz and tango to break dance, pop-n-lock, b-boy and Broadway.
Oh, that robot rap was too much fun! How many different dance moves did you spot?
The only concern I have is that I may find it difficult to remain safely seated during takeoff while I’m watching this video. I might just have to bust a move or two.
