I have a fascination with seed heads, they are often the most exquisite concoction of gossamer-like fluff in architectural framing. Yesterday I was compelled to take a shot of this cluster of salsify seed before dismantling it into a pile of seeds for next year.
So I went looking for other seed-themed photos I’ve taken on my travels and found some dramatic shapes at Battery Park in New York.
Seed-bearers we can eat, at a farmer’s market in California…
…and more seed-bearing edibles, this time from a foraging expedition around Ireland‘s hedgerows…
More berries, inedible but spectacular, on the way to a bamboo forest in Westchester County.
These chestnuts will never grow into trees because I ate them hot and roasted on a drizzly day in Rome.
Sowing the seeds of creativity, a little boy explores the world of colour at a Holi festival.

Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders. – Henry David Thoreau
We know we cannot plant seeds with closed fists. To sow, we must open our hands. – Adolfo Perez Esquivel
