The wind has been fierce around this way and it’s been hard on everyone. Trees creak ominously and garden birds hurtle across the skies at alarming rates as they try unsuccessfully to defy the gusts. The latest victim was a spider in the eves of a house I was passing, whose web had been shredded. As the spider scuttled around trying to untangle the carnage, I scuttled off to my laptop to write this week’s travel theme. First up, a delightfully cheerful and slightly frisky tangle of ribbons on a Maypole in Seattle.
A welcome tangle of yellow flowers brightening up a rather austere looking forest of bare trees in Mesa Verde.
A tangle of bare tree branches makes the perfect canopy for the snowy promenades of New York’s Central Park.
The bad-tempered, drinking, smoking Mayan deity that is Maximón; decorated in a tangle of ties in the small village of Santiago in Guatemala.
A tangle of webs and oversized spiders; this is Hallowe’en Manhattan-style.
Last but not least, a group of Vikings prepare to tangle with the enemy, last summer in Killaloe.
