There seems to be a growing demand for handmade (and even homemade) items in the circles I have been moving in recently. Perhaps it is a backlash against the anonymity of mass production. The demand appears to be highest when it comes to food, so maybe it has to do with concerns over what unsavory items end up in mass produced food. Whatever the reason, here are a few photos I’ve taken on my travels of handmade items. First up, hand dyed and homespun wool, from a fair in Clare celebrating Brian Boru.
Ever so delicate papier maché eggs all the way from Peru.
Handmade and homemade rosehip syrup – made from foraged hips from Irish hedgerows.
Hand painted Turkish pottery in a dazzling array of colours; they almost sparkle when the light catches them.
Gorgeous handmade quilt from Guatemala; I wish I’d bought it when I was there, those colours are magnificent.
