Once a year, the Irish Veteran and Vintage Car Club rev up their treasured motors and set course for the Powerscourt Estate in County Wicklow for their annual picnic. The public are welcome to come wander through the hundreds of vintage beauties free of charge, so last week that’s exactly what I did.
There was row upon row of stunning motors polished to perfection. Some of the owners went the extra mile and dressed for the part too.
The hard core auto enthusiasts were to be found bumbling around under the hood…
…but my eye was drawn to other details, like fabulous wooden steering wheels…
…bright brassy horns and headlights…
… and decadently delicate wing mirrors.
But oh, it was the amazing array of hood ornaments that really stole my heart.
Hood ornaments make the world a better place, don’t you agree?
