That crazy in flight video has got me longing to hop on a plane right now, but in the meantime, I can appease my yearning to take to the skies with a few sky-centric photos. I can’t think of a better place to start than with this morning’s dramatic purple and orange dawn over the east coast of Ireland.
A massive thunderstorm brewing over Jamaica Bay – just after I took this photo there was a blinding bolt of lightning and a torrential downpour. I was like a drowned rat, but luckily managed to keep my camera dry.
Sitting on a Manhattan rooftop waiting for 4th of July fireworks, watching the sun go down over the Hudson River. The fireworks were fun but that pink peach purple streaked sky was a hard act to follow.
Last but not least, blue skies mirrored in Bonneville Salt Flats which was flooded when I took this photo. It was one of the most dizzyingly beautiful sights I’ve ever seen.
It’s high time I passed it over to you for your interpretation of this week’s theme, through prose or poetry, a single photo or a whole gallery, the choice is up to you – the sky’s the limit. If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:
- Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Sky
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Get your post in by next Thursday, as the new travel theme comes out on Friday
- Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS
Reach for the sky!

You know, I was thinking of you when I took this photo Ailsa, and when you did your road trip talking about Montana’s big sky. Then you made this week’s travel theme sky! How about that? http://rainbowbakery.wordpress.com/2013/12/05/travel-theme-sky/
