Travel theme: Animals

Yesterday was World Animal Day, an international celebration of all the amazing creatures we share this planet with. It was conceived in 1931 at an ecology convention in Florence, with October 4th chosen as the date because it coincided with the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

I don’t think a single day is enough to celebrate the animal kingdom, so let’s make it a week-long celebration here on Where’s my backpack? Here are a few endearing creatures I’ve met on my travels.

black squirrel van cortland park

raccoon central park

wood duck central park

If you’d like to join in, here’s what to do:

  • Create your own post about animals and title it Travel Theme: Animals
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes.

It doesn’t have to be about wildlife; you can write an ode to your neighbour’s moggy if you like! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Give me a high-five paw!

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

The wood-duck fascinates me: takes me back years to the wooden duck my son pulled behind himself during his nursery days. Ah! tempus fugit.
