Travel theme: Foliage

It’s getting all autumnal up here in the northern hemisphere, while down in the southern hemisphere everyone’s looking forward to spring. Whichever hemisphere you inhabit, now is a fantastic time to get out and have a look at what the trees are doing. Whether they’re about to burst into life with fresh green growth, or starting to adorn themselves in their autumn glory; even if they’re still wearing their evergreen needles, it’s a wonderful time to go leaf peeping. Here are a few photos I’ve taken that let foliage take centre stage.

The leafy entrance to the Moongate Garden; part of the Edith B. Haupt Gardens in Washington DC.

Bird-filled branches in Snug Harbor on New York’s Staten Island.

Leafy trees casting long shadows as the sun sets over the hills of northern California.

And last, but not least, a lovely array of leaves peeping over a wall in Antigua, Guatemala.

Happy leaf peeping!

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Hey Ailsa, I am eagerly anticipating your new challenge, but the wait has given me an opportunity to catch up with one from two weeks ago, that I missed while on vacation in New Zealand. I got a bit carried away when I realised how many photographs I have taken of foliage from five different countries: Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Papua New Guinea and of course, from various locations around Australia. http://cinova.wordpress.com/2012/10/13/travel-theme-foliage/

Even in the Algarve those leaves were turning, oh so subtly, Ailsa. I’m home, cold and in denial now.

  6. I have become a leaf-peeper in my hometown of Rochester, New York. Thanks for visiting me; I wanted to pay a return visit and am happy I did. My next post will include fall foliage, but I warn everyone ahead of time that I am an amateur photographer. My specialty is writing, or painting “word-pictures.”

Somebody made a comment saying “It’s so great, it doesn’t look real”. Reminds me of the one that said the flowers looked so great they must be plastic. The English language has 600,000 plus commonly spoken words… You would think that American English can’t be too far behind, in as much as it uses most of mother English’s vocabulary. Point being, that if one really looks at the beauty of your poetic photography, one can but help to see its real beauty. Chapeau for your unmistakable creative talent. The composition is magnificent! Thanks so much for checking out my lifestyle blog Bmore Energy, https://bmoreenergy.wordpress.com. Your photos are beautiful! Here in the Northeast the autumn colors are so pretty. I just changed my header to a shot I took while in Saratoga Springs, NY–a panoramic view of multicolored tree tops.
