It’s getting all autumnal up here in the northern hemisphere, while down in the southern hemisphere everyone’s looking forward to spring. Whichever hemisphere you inhabit, now is a fantastic time to get out and have a look at what the trees are doing. Whether they’re about to burst into life with fresh green growth, or starting to adorn themselves in their autumn glory; even if they’re still wearing their evergreen needles, it’s a wonderful time to go leaf peeping. Here are a few photos I’ve taken that let foliage take centre stage.
The leafy entrance to the Moongate Garden; part of the Edith B. Haupt Gardens in Washington DC.
Bird-filled branches in Snug Harbor on New York’s Staten Island.
Leafy trees casting long shadows as the sun sets over the hills of northern California.
And last, but not least, a lovely array of leaves peeping over a wall in Antigua, Guatemala.
So get your best foliage photos out and celebrate leaves. If you’d like to join in, create your own post and call it Travel Theme: Foliage. Put a link to this page in your post so others can find it.
Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes.
Happy leaf peeping!
xxx Ailsa

How fun! I just ran across your blog when you liked one of my own posts. I had just looked at some photos I had taken of leaves and was wondering how to work them into a blog post. Perfect! Loads of fun! I am joining your weekly theme.
Yaay, perfect timing, Sheri. So glad you joined in and made use of your photos. I absolutely adore those rain-drenched leaves. Here’s hoping you join in again with the weekly travel themes! 🙂
Thanks for checking into my blog – your pictures are wonderfully creative.

Wow!! Thanks for the reminder that different parts of the world are in different seasons. It brings a wholeness to my view of Autumn. One of my favorite Autumn walks was in this photo of Chickakoo Lake walking path, where the leaves were so thick on the ground we felt like rolling in them. Check out “Autumn Leaves…let go, let go” at:

This theme stirred me up…thus a second go. Ailsa, thanks for the memories.

Loved it all, especially the birds.:)
Ailsa, once again you’ve introduced me to a new place in my own hometown, with the Edith B. Haupt Gardens! I love the Moongate Garden photo, as well as the birds… excellent capture. Here is my entry from Greece: http://catbirdingreece.wordpress.com/2012/10/04/travel-theme-foliage/
I am so missing the fall colors here in Oman, so I thought I would revisit Korea for some fall foliage: http://catbirdinkorea.wordpress.com/2012/10/04/travel-theme-foliage/
Whew, that orange is insane, I love it! xxx
Thank you Ailsa! At least Korea did have some beautiful autumn colors!
I would miss it too if I were away from it, it’s hard when you don’t have all the seasons. xxx
Yes, I can’t tell you how tiring it is to have only one season. HOT!
Better late than never right? In my defense, I did shoot these until this past Sunday 😀
Oh Jeff, these are glorious, that Rocky Gorge Autumn Mist is so so beautiful.
Thank you Ailsa. It was a rainy, yucky day, and I’m happy for every minute I was out there dodging the rain 😀
Isn’t it great? I love days like that!
I was almost disappointed that this past Sunday’s weather turned out better than forecast. That mist and fog the previous week really made the foliage come alive.
October is so beautiful – the first photo here http://wp.me/p1J6nA-p7 might class as foliage. There is almost too much of it everywhere, and berries and more. What a beautiful world everyone’s posts show.
Beautiful, Elspeth

the birds are my favorite. they look so cute on the “nearly” naked tree… that’s an interesting idea you have, to create a theme every week.
Glad you enjoyed it, GalonTrip. Those birds were very cute!

Great idea on a fall foliage post! I am finally living in an area (Minnesota) where the seasons are sharply delineated. Coming from Florida, it’s been really fun to watch the leaves change. Hopefully, my fear of the winter will be outweighed by the beauty that’s around me.
