Travel theme: Early

It’s early in the wee small hours and the coming dawn is filled with birdsong as I write this. That first peep of daylight is something magical, although I’m not often up early enough to see the dawn, so I thought I’d dedicate this week’s theme to all things early, starting with a photo that captures two of my favourite things; the dawn of a new day and the beginning of a new adventure – daybreak from an airplane window.

Early signs of life, fossils etched in stone – in this instance a close up of the Witness Trees in Seattle.

Early birds claiming the best seats for New York’s St. Patrick’s’ Day Parade. The parade wasn’t due to start for hours, I hope they brought coffee.

Some of the earliest signs of springtime in the Irish countryside, clumps of barely yellow wild primroses.

And another early harbinger of spring, delicate snowdrops from the Snowdrop Festival in Carlow’s Altamont Gardens

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Hi Ailsa, I got in early with my photo series. A beautiful time of day early in the morning when all is still and barely moving. Regards Peet https://pdjpix.wordpress.com/2016/02/27/early-a-travel-theme/

This one will be difficult for me, Ailsa. I’m rarely up ‘early’. Love that first shot – nothing like the sun sparkle off a wing tip to signal new adventure. And Wow on the witness trees. I’d love to see a long shot of them. Are they still standing? Can’t be.

Nothing quite like a Pacific island dawn. http://aglasshalf-full.com/2016/03/02/sunrise-in-the-solomons/
