If you’re in any way green-fingered and living in the northern hemisphere, this is the time of year when your gardening genes go into overdrive, so I’m taking my inspiration for this week’s travel theme from the season that’s upon us. Here is my homage to gardens, starting with Altamont Gardens in County Carlow, famous for its annual Snowdrop Festival.
The stunning Japanese Gardens at the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island in Washington state.
The Edith B. Haupt Moongate Garden in Washington DC.
And the last garden, perhaps not as grand as the other three, but overflowing with homegrown charm. My gardening wingman, Robin Redbreast, surveys the view from the top of a pea trellis I made.

Haha I know, gardening teaches you patience that’s for sure – and how to accept failure when wood pigeons wipe out your kale or blight hits your tomatoes. 🙂
I believe tomatoes should never have direct rain/ watering on the leaves… that will help with blight! (I heard it on the BBC’s GQT!)

Thanks, Ailsa. that garden is for sale now…the old couple owning it has collected rare plants from all over the world for their garden. Now they are too old to keep it going. I only wish I had outdoor green fingers outdoors…I would have bought it immediately.

Love gardens! Parks and gardens, I never miss when we travel. If there is a palace to visit, we also always check the gardens. I loved the gardens from Belvedere palace in Vienna.
