Travel theme: Garden

If you’re in any way green-fingered and living in the northern hemisphere, this is the time of year when your gardening genes go into overdrive, so I’m taking my inspiration for this week’s travel theme from the season that’s upon us. Here is my homage to gardens, starting with Altamont Gardens in County Carlow, famous for its annual Snowdrop Festival.

The stunning Japanese Gardens at the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island in Washington state.

The Edith B. Haupt Moongate Garden in Washington DC.

And the last garden, perhaps not as grand as the other three, but overflowing with homegrown charm. My gardening wingman, Robin Redbreast, surveys the view from the top of a pea trellis I made.

Can I tempt you to get your hands dirty with your interpretation of this week’s theme? If you would like to join in (everyone’s welcome!) here’s what to do:

  • Create your own post and title it Travel theme: Garden
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Watch out for the next travel theme which will come out next weekend
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date on the latest weekly travel themes. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

Dig deep and give it some welly!

The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul. – Alfred Austin

A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust. – Gertrude Jekyll

Won’t you come into the garden? I would like my roses to see you. – Richard Brinsley Sheridan

About ailsapm

Hi there! I’m Ailsa Prideaux-Mooney. I’ve lived in many places, and travelled to many more. I had a lot of fun getting there and being there, wherever there happened to be at the time. I climbed a castle wall in Czesky Krumlov, abseiled down cliffs to go caving in the west of Ireland, slept on the beach in Paros, got chased by a swarm of bees in Vourvourou (ok that wasn’t fun, but it was exciting), learned flower arranging in Tokyo, found myself in the middle of a riot in Seoul, learned to snowboard in Salzburg, got lost in a labyrinth in Budapest and had my ice cream stolen by a gull in Cornwall. And I’m just getting started. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far, I’d love you to follow my travelogue - wheresmybackpack.com - and remember, anyone who tries to tell you it’s a small world hasn’t tried to see it all.

Love Robin Redbreast, Ailsa. My Garden has virtually no plants. In fact, it’s barely on Earth! http://bit.ly/GardGods

Stunning shots, Debbie, and thanks for putting Ashridge on my radar, I hadn’t heard of it before. Yes, I love my little garden robin (actually there are two, one in the front garden and one in the back, they squabble sometimes over the boundaries).

Love gardens! Parks and gardens, I never miss when we travel. If there is a palace to visit, we also always check the gardens. I loved the gardens from Belvedere palace in Vienna.
Here is also my travel blog, would love to have your support as well.
